Happy Canada Day!

Alette and Abria don't get to show off their Canadian side too often, so we went way, way overboard for the July 1st parade. Abria happily sat in her stroller, clapping and giggling at everything. Alette was sleep deprived, cranky, and whiney. To try and keep the peace I let her eat all the candy she caught and play in the dirt. Both girls have had long naps each afternoon as they try to adjust to the time difference and the busy schedule. The first day here they both woke up at 3am, ready to start their day. Today it was 5:30 which sadly seemed a little more sane.
Alette is enchanted by the mountains, the spray park, and grandma's yard. She loves smarties, her new stuffed moose, and her red balloons. She's asking a million questions about everything(pretty normal for her!) and I've had a hard time explaining why grandpa can eat ice-cream before dinner but she cannot. I told her it's because he is old...but that doesn't really cut it for her-as she said in response 'but I am older everyday too'.

Our Longest Day Ever....

We woke up in NJ and went to bed in BC. In between we spent way too much time on a plane and in the car (the question 'are we there yet?' got pretty old). But all is well that ends well...and the day ended well with a family gathering in the park.

Our Fashionista

Left to her own devices Alette would venture forth in some truly bizarre outfits. Luckily, she is pretty gullible and will willingly change into a 'princess' dress (anything that is pink or ruffly) for going out. I no longer blink an eye at any strange combination of clothes I see on a child.

Andy had a couple of days off-which we happily spent playing with the girls.

Catching Some ZZZZZs

Early one morning I nursed Abria, left for a run, came back and found both her and Andy knocked out.

The Start of Summer Fun

The younger generation of cousins are now providing all the entertainment necessary at family barbeques. Pippi and Alette spent the day running through sprinklers, chasing butterflies, eating popsicles, trying to chop down a tree (with a rubber mallet and plastic bat), and playing badminton. Abria entertained everyone by devouring her first popsicle. Everyone went home happy and sticky.

Look Mom, No Cavities!

We had practised brushing our teeth and holding our mouths open all week (to avoid biting the dentist). When the dentist appointment came, Alette was more than ready. Of course, it helped that the dentist had 'Dora' on tv-in fact, Alette was a little disappointed that we could not stay longer. No cavities, no problems...and much to my chagrin, the dentist was not concerned about using a soother at night. Grrr...I was hoping to add him to my arsenal in the soother war.
